The new Islamabad airport (located in near the Rawalpindi fateh jang road in fateh jang). is to be the biggest in Pakistan it has taken over 10 years to complete and will serve both domestic and international passengers. With state of the art technologies and 2 runways to accommodate for the largest airliners in the world notably the A380 which has been allocated 2 gates specifically designed for the largest commercial aircraft.
Passengers are advised that the new airport will be fully operational on 03MAY 2018 – All flights from the old Benazir Bhutto International Airport will be diverted to the New Islamabad Airport on this date. All travelers are advised to check with their airline or travel agent for further updates.
Please note: the original opening of the new islamabad airport was 21APR however this was postponed due to operational reasons, the new opening date of 03MAY2018 has been confirmed by the PCAA – Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.
All airlines are due to operate from the new airport from 0500hrs 03MAY2018. Flights to Pakistan are not affected by the change and will continue to operate as per current schedules although the new airport is expected to offer more flights and choice to customers over time.
Passengers should arrive around 4 hours before their schedules flight departures and reconfirm all flight times as they may change due to the operations being transferred from Benazir International Airport to the New Islamabad International Airport (NIIAP)
The airport code is currently ISB it is not known at this stage if the airport code will change however it is unlikely to change and will most probably continue to use the same code i.e. ISB.
About the airport: The airport will handle over 9 million passengers in its first year increasing to 25 million in its 2nd phase by year 2025. It will be the largest airport in Pakistan in terms of passenger capacity and the first airport in Pakistan capable of handling the airbus a380. the airport will become a major hub serving northern Pakistan. Being a new airport a significant portion of the land has been designed for commercial purposes such as duty free shops, hotel and convention centre, malls, leisure centres and food courts. the airport is connected to Islamabad via the Kashmir highway and Rawalpindi via the GT road and the proposed ring road.
The new Islamabad airport includes 15 gates with 10 remote gates for smaller aircraft and a 4 star hotel.
